Ever since billionaire jerk Elon Musk took over Twitter in October 2022, Twitter has been a sinking ship (though, arguably, it has been that way for a while). As part of his efforts to fix parts of the Bird App, the SpaceX and Tesla CEO has brought on noted iPhone jailbreaker and PlayStation 3 hacker George Hotz. Despite joining as an intern for 12 weeks, Hotz has resigned from the company after just one month.
Chris Hotz joined Twitter in December for an internship that was supposed to pay for his living expenses in San Francisco. He tweeted on November 7th, “decided to put my money where my mouth is and tough out 12 weeks interning at twitter (cost of living in SF).” But only two days before the internship’s end date, he took to twitter to announce that he had quit, effective immediately.
On December 20, Hotz tweeted that he had resigned from Twitter. “I appreciate the opportunity, but felt I couldn’t make a meaningful difference [at the social media company]. Also, I was sad to see my GitHub dwindle. Back to coding!”
It looks like Elon Musk is struggling to hang on to his title as head of Twitter. Now the founder of Hotz, George Hotz, has decided to step down after less than a week at the social media company. He revealed in a tweet that he was leaving mainly because he didn’t agree with how things were done there, as opposed to what he thought they would be. He also said he now sees that “the environment of a startup and found something very different.” This should be concerning to all Twitter employees because it tells us Hotz doesn’t agree with the culture at the company or what it stands for.
Hotz responded to Kotaku’s request for comment.
Eventually, Hotz is still rooting for Musk’s Twitter. He said Musk has “done a phenomenal job” with the social media company so far, but now wants to get back to work on his vehicle automation startup, Comma AI.
